Jindal Strikes Populist Tone
Governor Seeks to Tone Down Republican Rhetoric, Blatant Stupidity

(Baton Rouge, LA) — As comedian Ron White once said, "You can't fix stupid!" Some Republicans are now trying to not "dumb-down" their political party. In fact, it would be hard for them to go much lower.

In a recent interview, Governor Bobby Jindal (R-LA), the Indian-American governor who is all but certain to run for the presidency in 2016, criticized the Republican Party as too anti-intellectual and too beholden to the wealthy.

"We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters," he said.

"But we also need to keep minorities from reaching their respective ballot boxes," said a Republican strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Jindal added that the Republican Party has "had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism." Sadly, for Jindal, the Republicans, who have a vision for America circa 1950 instead of looking ahead to 2050, are about as dumbed-down as you can get.

"We've got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything," Jindal continued. Unfortunately, both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party are parties of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, and big corporate loopholes.

Since Election Day, many conservatives have argued that the Republican Party needs to reach out to lower-income voters on economic issues. These would be the same lower-income voters that Mitt Romney (R-MA) famously disenfranchised as the "47%" who would never support him.

Jindal is known nationally for giving the Republican response to President Obama's first address to a joint session of Congress in 2009. The most important speech of Jindal's political life turned into an oratorical disaster.

Yet, that was almost four years ago, and Jindal finds his name being mentioned more and more as a 2016 candidate. Real estate mogul Donald Trump has already lined up behind Jindal. "Mr. Trump has seen Governor Jindal's birth certificate, so he's not concerned about that at all," said a Trump spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity.
