Macfarlane Sworn in as NRC Chairman
First Order of Business is a Vacation

(Rockville, MD) — The chairman's seat was still warm as Dr. Allison Macfarlane was sworn in today as the new Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The former chairman, Gregory B. Jaczko, resigned under intense pressure from both Congress and the other four NRC commissioners, now dubbed the "NRC Gang of Four," who ultimately forced him from power.

Macfarlane's credentials are impressive, including those that tie her closely to Senate Majority Leader Harry "NIMBY" (Not In My BackYard) Reid – meaning the agency's anti-Yucca Mountain efforts are likely to continue.

And then, just as quickly as she arrived, she departed, for a two-week vacation.

"Chairman Macfarlane believes in the agency, and she believes in getting to work right away … as long as it works around her schedule," said an NRC spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity.
