(Rockville, MD) — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's New Reg Café, run by the folks that put "regurgitate" in "NUREG" every work day, has worked out a plan with NRC offices dealing with a surplus of old, printed NRC reports. And the plan has left a bad taste in the mouths of many NRC employees. Starting in April, the New Reg Café will begin serving NUREGs, NRC technical reports, to customers. "Add a little salt, add a little ketchup, what's not to like?" said a New Reg Café employee, speaking on condition of anonymity. If the plan goes over well, fiche filét sandwiches could be added to the menu by September, helping out the NRC with excess microfiche retrieved from its now-defunct Local Public Document Rooms (LPDRs). And old issues of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) would soon follow. But many NRC employees are balking at being served a diet of paper and microfiche. Unimpressed and unmoved, NRC officials are largely ignoring the complaints and are proceeding with their plans. "Gripe, gripe, gripe! It's a good thing they don't know what they've been eating up to now!" said an NRC official, speaking on condition of anonymity. |
