Ostendorff Sworn in as a Commissioner
Wife Simply Swearing

(Rockville, MD) — With his smiling wife at his side, William C. Ostendorff was sworn in for a second term as a Commissioner of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on July 7. Previously serving on the Commission for 15 months, his current term will end on June 30, 2016.

"The NRC Chairman [Gregory B. Jaczko] is happy to have Commissioner Ostendorff on the job for the long term," said an NRC spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. "At a time where there is some tension amongst the ranks of the NRC commissioners, Ostendorff has been a steadfast ally of the agency's mission, unlike the others," presumably referring to the other three NRC commissioners: George Apostolakis, William D. Magwood, IV, and Kristine L. Svinicki, all of whom have been publicly at odds recently with Jaczko's management style.

In addition to inter-commisioner tensions, it appears that Mrs. Ostendorff was less than happy with the new appointment. "While it affords the Ostendorffs some stability in an uncertain economy and job market, Mrs. Ostendorff was looking forward to moving away from their house that's just down the street from the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant [in Lusby, MD]," said an Ostendorff spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. "Apparently she's concerned that the whole thing will explode one day, and she would have liked to 'get the hell out of town' before it happens."
