Fathers Fuss and Fight over Mother's Room Plans

(Rockville, MD) — The issue of removing the Public Document Room's (PDR) bathroom took yet another strange turn today, with an unlikely group joining the fight over its planned conversion.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Office of Administration (NRC/ADM) recently announced – or, more accurately, neglected to notify PDR staff – that the PDR bathroom would be converted to a Mother's Room, making the first such room available in Mordor (One White Flint North). ADM staff also neglected to take into account the adverse effects the bathroom's removal would have on both PDR staff and the PDR's public visitors.

Just as the situation looked more dire and hopeless, an advocate group has suddenly joined the movement to save the PDR's bathroom.

The NRC chapter of the Lactating Fathers of America (NRC-LFA) is protesting the creation of the Mother's Room, saying that it restricts use only to lactating mothers, effectively discriminating against their needs.

"The women always get these rooms," said a NRC-LFA spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. "And the men are left out in the cold. Why? Lactating mothers have needs, but lactating fathers have needs, too. They don't want to broadcast what these needs are, but they have them. And it's time for the NRC and other Federal agencies to take notice."

"We may be ignored for now, but we won't be for long," continued the NRC-LFA spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. "We're going to picket every public meeting held at the agency. And when the RIC (Regulatory Information Conference) is held in March, watch out! We're taking our cues from our "Occupy Wall Street" brethren, and we're coming with a vengeance. We won't stop until there's free, uninhibited, non-discriminatory lactation for all!

ADM staff had no comment on the NRC-LFA's comments at the time of publication.
