For Republicans, Bachmann's the Real Deal, Pilgrim!

(Waterloo, IA) — Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann announced her presidential candidacy here in her hometown on June 27. In doing so, she declared "John Wayne was from Waterloo," when in fact he was born about 150 miles away, in Winterset, IA. Instead, it was serial killer John Wayne Gacy Jr. who lived in Waterloo.

Shrugging the misstatement aside, Bachmann touted her domestic and international credentials with more family history statements. She proudly claimed that her father invented the light bulb, while also sharing the birthplace of her Austrian grandfather, Braunau am Inn, which just so happens to be the birthplace of Adolf Hitler.
