Jackson Jr. Receiving Treatment for a Mood Disorder
"Undisclosed Residential Treatment Facility" Not in New York City

(Washington, DC) — Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL), on medical leave since June 10 for an undisclosed medical condition is at an undisclosed location receiving treatment for a mood disorder, according to a Jackson Jr. spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Jackson has served in the House of Representatives since 1994.

The absence of information from Jackson has led to wild speculation over the reason for his absence. One report had Jackson receiving treatment for alcohol and addiction issues. Others speculated that he was suffering from exhaustion and guilt over his ties to former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich (D), for whom he allegedly improperly raised money in an effort to win appointment to the Senate seat formerly held by President Obama. And Jackson's office said that he was receiving treatment for "physical and emotional ailments" just last week.

While the facility is "undisclosed" and all statements lean towards Jackson making a full recovery, it's a safe bet that he's not being treated in New York City.

"He was all set to check in to an excellent facility located in New York City," said a Jackson Jr. spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. "But when his father (Rev. Jesse Jackson) heard about the plans, he put a stop to them immediately."

"There's no way in hell his son, or any other family member, was going to be treated anywhere in Hymietown," said a Jackson spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity.
