(Washington, DC) — Putting aside the non-stop bloodletting of 2011-2012, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan bill to temporarily fund the Federal government through the November election and into next year. The Senate is expected to take up the bill next week. The funding level will be set at $1.047 trillion; many Republicans preferred to cut the number to $1.028 trillion, but went along to avoid any acrimony less than two months before Election Day. “This is win-win,” said a House Republican spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We have shown average, ordinary, everyday Americans that their Congress can work. In spite of our 9% approval rating, we can reach across the aisle and get things done when it matters most – to us.” “This was very important,” said another House spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity. “I mean, without the funding in place, Congress wouldn’t get paid. And if Congress didn’t get paid, folks wouldn’t be able to afford their three or four houses. That would have been a disaster for them. I mean, can you imagine a member of Congress losing their home – or homes?” |
