Republican, Conservative Attacks No Fluke
Pundits Once Again Cross the Line of Decency

(Charlotte, NC) — Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student who was verbally harassed by conservatives after she was denied a chance to testify at a congressional hearing to advocate for birth-control coverage in the Affordable Care Act, delivered an address to the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday. But it's was said off-stage that's now making news.

Earlier this year, Fluke testified to an unofficial House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee session that Georgetown's refusal to pay for birth control meant that some students pay $1000 out-of-pocket every year.

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, never one to mince words, responded, "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception."

At the Convention, Fluke called Republican positions on contraception "an offensive, obsolete relic of our past." That comment sent the conservative Twittersphere abuzz.

One tweet said that they "wish[ed] Ted Kennedy could have taken her for a ride." Another Twitter contributor wondered if she had "'Birth Control Martyr' business cards."

But the most shocking comments were made by conservative Republican Morlock Ann Coulter, who responded by joking that Fluke had been impregnated by Bill Clinton backstage. She later referred to Fluke's speech as "a live abortion."

"If anyone knows about live abortions, it's Morlock Coulter," said a Democratic strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity. "After all, she's living proof."

Coulter's comments also brought back memories from August when Representative Todd Akin (R-MO) made his controversial "legitimate rape" observations.
